Yesterday was the last day of school. Somebody I know died yesterday too.
On Nick Parisot
Last night my Dad got a call from school, and it was short, so I figured it was just some kind of congratulations to the parents of graduates or something. But then my dad took me into the living room and basically said:
Dad: You know who Nick Parisot is?
Me: Yeah, he rode the big bicycle in the Memorial Day Parade. He told me it was called a "bone-shaker".
Dad: He died today.
So yeah, it was kind of abrupt, and you know, it wasn't that bad for me because I didn't really know this kid all that well, but then I started thinking about it, because it was such a bad age to die. The worst, I think. Because if a person died when they're sort of old, like maybe from their forties and on, you think "Yeah, that was pretty sad, but at least he lived a pretty substantial life." And if a little kid died, the parents are devastated, but the kid didn't really have time to develop a real personality yet, so it's sad but at the same time, it would probably be worse if the kid was a little older, because by 13 or 14, they've really turned into their own unique person by then and that, to me, is really losing something special. And to everyone who knows him and still reads my blog, there's going to be a moment of silence for him at 1:00 pm on June 14th (tomorrow) because even though we're not all together, we can still respect him all at the same time. I feel so bad for his parents and all his best friends, because I'm speculating that what happened was he was partying because school's finally over, so he and his friends got together and decided to ride around on ATVs to celebrate or something (all the caller said was that it was an ATV accident) and he just ran into something and died. It's so strange how somebody can just be living and breathing one second and then a moment later, purely accidentally, they're dead. That's just how fragile we really are, and how unexpected everybody's life is. Like my mom knows somebody at work who's mom died just because she was walking along and she happened to trip and she split her head open on a rock. Like how unexpected it that? It could really happen any time. So that's really all I have to say about him, because everything else about his death is too tragic to put in words.
